Data breach — Critical

The Stormous group claims an attack dating from around June 2025 against French national education services, with the number of people affected stated as around 40,000. FrenchBreaches examined five files published as evidence: they contain email addresses, login identifiers, and passwords in plain text or as hashes (MD5, SHA-512), tied to French educational and administrative services, including EduConnect and the Créteil school district. The record counts (742 to 5,000 lines per file) do not equal the number of distinct individuals, as duplicates are possible, and some of the data reportedly comes from information-stealing malware.

Credentials paired with a plaintext password could let a third party attempt to sign in to educational or administrative accounts, or reuse those pairs on other services, if the passwords are still valid.

## Exposed data

- Email address
- Customer ID
- Password (plaintext)
- Password (hashed)
- Connection data (IP, logs)

## What you can do

- Change that password — and everywhere you reused it. That is how a leak spreads to your other accounts.
- Turn on two-factor authentication on the affected accounts: a stolen password is then no longer enough.
- Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
- You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
