FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)

CriticalReportedPublic sector

The ShinyHunters group claims to have exploited a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft software to breach FBI systems on the night of September 21, 2026, and to have stolen between 2 and 3 TB of data on current and former employees as well as job applicants. The group claims access to the FBI's Criminal Justice, HR, and Medlink services, and released a sample covering roughly 5,000 records. The FBI confirmed it is investigating activity affecting the FBIJobs.gov portal, without confirming the intrusion, the authenticity of the data, or whether the entry point was a third-party provider or its own systems.

If confirmed, this data would enable identity theft and targeting of federal agents and their families, particularly through the exposed Social Security numbers and health-related information.

Exposed data

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Postal address
  • Social security number
  • Employment data
  • Health data

You are only affected if you had an account or an order with this organisation.

What you can do

  • Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
  • These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
  • Health data is “special category” data under the GDPR: a leak opens a right to compensation, and the organisation must notify the DPA within 72 hours.
  • You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
