Ecofone

ModerateConfirmedRetail

Ecofone, a French retailer of refurbished smartphones, tablets and electronic devices, notified its customers of an intrusion into its online store, detected on 5 September 2026 with traces of activity going back to 4 September. The attack exploited a then-unknown vulnerability in the Magento software. Categories of data potentially accessible include first and last names, billing and delivery addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and order information, including for guest purchases made without an account; for some account holders, the hashed password (not stored in plain text) may have been accessible.

This data could allow a third party to conduct targeted phishing attempts, posing as Ecofone and using real order details to appear credible.

Exposed data

  • Full name
  • Postal address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Order history
  • Password (hashed)

You are only affected if you had an account or an order with this organisation.

What you can do

  • Change that password — and everywhere you reused it. That is how a leak spreads to your other accounts.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication on the affected accounts: a stolen password is then no longer enough.
  • Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
  • You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
