Office français de la biodiversité (service « Permis de chasser »)
CriticalReportedPublic sector
On 4 October 2026, an attacker claimed to have obtained about 170,000 rows of data through a flaw in the API of the French Biodiversity Office's hunting licence service, which was taken offline. A specialist outlet analysed a sample of 1,213 files, covering about 1,200 distinct applicants linked to 94 federations or entities. The files contain identity details, date and place of birth, nationality, postal address, email, phone number and payment information, and include fields on some representatives and protected-adult status. The total claimed volume has not been independently confirmed; this is the second known incident affecting the service in 2026.
This information could allow a third party to impersonate applicants or contact them in a targeted way using genuine details from their file.

What you can do
- Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
- These documents enable identity theft, and cannot be reissued at will. Keep the notification letter: it proves where the leak came from if an account is opened in your name.
- You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
