Slate Valley Unified Union School District

CriticalReportedEducation

The Slate Valley school district (Fair Haven, Vermont, United States) has been responding to a cybersecurity incident since September 3, 2026. The district board voted not to pay the ransom demanded. The Kairos group claims 762 GB of data, including 647 GB of SQL databases holding personal and medical information about students and employees. A 243-row spreadsheet provided to a specialist news outlet contains students' names, dates of birth, parents' names, home addresses and phone numbers, with notes related to special education and, in some rows, Medicaid. The district says its investigation is ongoing and that it cannot confirm student data was not compromised.

This information would let a malicious third party target identified families, children included, with fraudulent mail or calls, or approach them using details about a student's school or health situation.

Exposed data

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Postal address
  • Phone number
  • Health data

You are only affected if you had an account or an order with this organisation.

What you can do

  • Expect phishing attempts quoting your name and this company. A message that knows your details is not legitimate for that reason.
  • Health data is “special category” data under the GDPR: a leak opens a right to compensation, and the organisation must notify the DPA within 72 hours.
  • You can ask the organisation exactly what was exposed about you (right of access), and complain to the DPA if no answer comes within a month.
