Legal Aid Agency (Royaume-Uni)
CriticalConfirmedPublic sector
The UK Legal Aid Agency suffered an intrusion into its digital services in April 2025, and personal data of legal aid applicants was downloaded. Official communications first placed the oldest affected data in 2010, then in 2007, and added that information on applicants' partners might also be involved. A further update announced in October 2026 states that the compromised data goes back as far as 1978. The information involved may include postal contact details, date of birth, a national identity number, criminal history, employment status and financial data tied to legal aid.
Such information allows a malicious third party to impersonate the person or target them with credible fraudulent messages and calls, and criminal history data can be used for blackmail.
