National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)

LowConfirmedPublic sector

At a parliamentary audit in October 2026, a lawmaker stated that an employee of South Korea's National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) had sold personal information of insureds and their dependents to outside parties. The employee was dismissed in July 2025. According to Korean press, an NHIS executive acknowledged that the payment received ran to over a hundred million won, and the people affected had not yet been notified of the breach. The organisation says an investigation is ongoing and the affected individuals have not been identified. The specific categories of data sold are not given in the sources consulted.
